Staff Accountant

Alaska

The Staff Accountant supports the firm’s day-to-day accounting operations through accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger accounting, reconciliations, month-end close, and financial reporting support. This role helps maintain accurate financial records, supports compliance activities, and contributes to efficient accounting processes and operational improvements.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Accounts Payable

  • Respond to vendor inquiries and reconcile vendor statements
  • Create and maintain vendor records
  • Review and process trade and consultant invoices
  • Prepare payment batches and process ACH, checks, and electronic payments

Corporate Card Administration

  • Administer the corporate credit card program
  • Process and reconcile monthly card transactions
  • Collect and review supporting documentation
  • Submit monthly payments

Accounts Receivable

  • Record client payments and bank deposits
  • Monitor accounts receivable aging and assist with follow-ups

General Ledger

  • Prepare journal entries and maintain supporting schedules
  • Perform balance sheet reconciliations
  • Assist with month-end close activities

Tax & License Reporting

  • Prepare various local sales tax filings and TERO reporting
  • Coordinate business license, property tax, and professional license renewals

Financial Reporting Support

  • Assist with audit requests and financial reporting support
  • Maintain accounting documentation and supporting records

Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial recordkeeping.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting established deadlines.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and accounting software.
  • Experience with Deltek Vantagepoint or similar ERP/accounting systems preferred.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality while handling sensitive financial information.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and process standardization.

Education & Experience

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field preferred.
  • Two (2) or more years of experience in general accounting, accounts payable, accounts
    receivable, or financial reporting preferred.
  • Experience with month-end close activities, journal entries, account reconciliations, and
    financial reporting support preferred.
  • Experience within the Architecture, Engineering, Construction (AEC), or professional services
    industry is a plus.

Physical Requirements

  • Primarily office-based work environment.
  • Ability to sit, stand, and work at a computer for extended periods.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person, by telephone, and electronically.
  • Regular attendance during normal business hours is required.
