    Houston High School

Houston High School, accommodating 563 students in grades 9-12, shares its site with Houston Middle School in Alaska, serving the Houston, Big Lake, and West Wasilla areas. This 84,440 SF facility, designed for future expansion to 1,200 students, operates independently yet in coordination with the middle school. Despite being smaller than typical Borough high schools, it offers a full curriculum range, including college preparatory and vocational programs.

The school’s layout centers around the ‘Centrum’, a multipurpose area connecting various wings and facilities like the Administrative Offices, Cafeterium, Media Center, and Performing Arts Suite. The Cafeterium, adjoining the Performing Arts Suite, features a stage for diverse cultural activities. The Media Center is adjacent to a Computer Lab, promoting interactive learning.

The Academic Wing houses specialized science labs, computer labs, and classrooms for various subjects, along with food preparation and textile labs. The Physical/Vocational Education Wing includes a Gymnasium, a vocational suite with a Wood Shop, and facilities for practical projects.

Enhancing the school’s functionality are landscaped Entry Plazas, separate parking areas, sports facilities including an ice rink, and new softball and baseball fields, making it a comprehensive, modern educational environment.
