    UAA SCIENCE BUILDING RENOVATION

The UAA Science Renovation project updated the facilities and program of an aging building from the 1970s. Architects Alaska developed a phased construction approach, ensuring educational programs within the building continued uninterrupted during the renovation. The existing two-story, 30,000 SF building underwent a complete remodel to reorganize its interior for the updated program. This process included hazardous materials abatement, enhancement of the structural lateral resistance system, and renewal of mechanical and electrical systems. The project was executed in three phases to prevent disruption to the educational mission. An exterior phase, which focused on landscaping, art, and the installation of geological specimens, wrapped up the project, finishing on schedule and at an approximate construction cost of $7.8 million.
